Prof. Zehra Neşe Kavak, MD

Academic Hospital Chair of the Board - Gynecology and Obstetrics - Perinatology

Prof. Kavak was born in Istanbul and graduated from Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine in 1986. During 1990 and 1991, she worked at St. Thomas’s Hospital / London, England towards her specialty training. She became an Associate Professor at Marmara University, School of Medicine in 1996. She worked at King’s College Hospital/London on Perinatology intermittently between 2000 and 2001. She acquired her Fetal Medicine Diploma at King’s College Hospital, London (2004). In 2001 she founded Perinatology Unit at Marmara University School of Medicine Hospital. The same year she became a professor and was appointed as the Head Physician of the Hospital. Between 2001 and 2005 she served as the Head Physician at Marmara University Hospital. Between 2002 and 2006 she acted as Marmara University’s Assistant Chancellor. In 2002, she was elected as the Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Marmara University School of Medicine and served in this assignment for two terms. She continued to serve as the Chair of the Perinatology Department from 2001 to 2011. Prof. Kavak has 70 articles published in international refereed journals, 83 articles in national refereed journals, 153 articles in total and 1444 citations made to these publications, 11 assistant’s dissertation theses completed under her guidance and has 120 papers/presentations given in national and international scientific meetings and published in proceedings. She has been invited to speak at 112 international meetings in various countries around the world, additionally Prof. Kavak has 23 post-specialty overseas education certificates on Perinatology. She also holds seats on the editorial boards of numerous national and international scientific journals. She was elected as a member of the World Academy of Arts and Science, founded by Einstein and Oppenheimer in 2004, and in 2009, she was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of the same academy. She is the first Turkish person elected to these positions. With her extensive works in Perinatology, Prof. Kavak is the first Turkish physician to be elected to the Board of World Association of Perinatology in September 2005. In October 2007, she was elected as a Member of the International Academy of Perinatal Medicine, one of the most respected organizations in the field of Obstetrics. She is a Board Member of Fetus as a Patient Society (2006). Focusing her main field of research on the use of 3D-4D ultrasonography and invasive procedures during pregnancy, Prof. Kavak has co-authored 13 international titles, 8 of which are in English, 3 in Spanish and 1 in Turkish and has also published 2 books in English and Spanish and 1 in Turkish. In 2007, she was invited to teach as an adjunct professor at Cornell University in New York City and gave a lesson as a Lecturer Professor. On September 15, 2017 Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, assigned Prof. M.D. Zehra Neşe Kavak to the Founding Rectorate of Istanbul Kent University.

- TIKAD (Turkish Businesswomen Association), where she serves as Vice President, obtained the “Award of Excellence of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM)” in 2006.

-In 2019, on the 100th Anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun, Prof M.D Zehra Neşe Kavak was selected among the 100 pioneer women in Turkey.

-Prof Kavak was named as one of the Top 10 women of Turkey by Milliyet Newspaper on March 8, 2008.

-In October 2007, Prof Kavak was elected as an Honorary Member to Romanian Perinatology Society.

-In 2006, Prof received “Contribution to Society Award” of Süleyman Demirel University.

-Prof. Kavak achieved Woman Super Achiever Award at 4th World Women Leadership Congress & Summit on February 17, 2017 in Bombay, India.

-In March 2017, Prof Kavak received “Best Hospital and Best Hospital Manager of 2016 Awards” on behalf of Academic Hospital in London by EBA (European Business Assembly) Oxford.

-In July 2017 Prof Kavak was given “European Quality Award” during Leader’s Summit in Lucerne, Switzerland.

-Prof. Kavak acquired “Public Service Architecture” and “Public Service Interior” awards on behalf of Academic Hospital in European Property Awards/London in October 2017.

-On December 10, 2018 Prof MD. Zehra Neşe Kavak participated ESQR's (European Society for Quality Research) Award Ceremony in USA to receive "Best Quality Leadership Award 2018" on behalf of Academic Hospital.

-On 18 June 2019, Prof. MD. Zehra Neşe Kavak was awarded the “Jury Special Award” for her distinctive studies in the academic and healthcare field in the Academy Culture and Science Awards night organized by All Bureaucrats and Businessmen Federation (TÜMBİFED).

-Prof Kavak achieved “Bravest Woman of the Year” award of Kültür University in 2004.

-Prof. Kavak received “IMDA 2019 Most Successful International Management of the Year’ award at the World Business Congress organized by International Management Development in Cyprus on 14 June 2019.

-Prof. Kavak acquired “Excellence Award in Medicine” (given in honor of March 8, World Women’s Day) by the International Lyons Clubs in 2006.

-In 2006, Prof was rewarded “Melvin Jones” award.
