I was born in Istanbul in 1967. I completed my secondary education at Istanbul Sankt Georg Austrian High School. I graduated from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1992. I completed my psychiatry specialization at Bakırköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital between 1992-1994, and at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Hospital between 1994-1998. I became an associate professor in 2006 and a professor in 2013. I served as the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine between 2016-2019. I retired in 2020.
