How Is Breast Ultrasound Performed? How Long Does It Take?

It usually takes 10–15 minutes and generally does not require special preparation. The procedure is performed by an experienced radiologist. A special gel is applied to the area being examined. The gel helps sound waves pass through the skin and improves image quality. The breast and armpit areas are carefully scanned with the device head called a probe.
